Seven Wayne State University Law School students will gain experience and serve a variety of agencies this summer, thanks to the support of the 2024 Public Interest Law Fellowships.

Each student will volunteer 40 hours a week for 10 weeks, collectively providing more than 2,500 hours of service to organizations serving the public and under-represented individuals.

The 2024 fellowship recipients and their organizations are:

• Bayley Borowy, rising 3L, Neighborhood Defender Service, Detroit

• Lauren Filipiak, rising 2L, Ann Arbor City Attorney's Office, Ann Arbor

• Melodie Floro, rising 3L, State Appellate Defender Office, Detroit

• Caleb Horton, rising 3L, Neighborhood Defender Service, Detroit

• Elizabeth Miller, rising 2L, International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, Detroit

• Clarisa Russenberger, rising 2L, US Office of Special Counsel, Detroit

• Carly Schneider, rising 3L, State Appellate Defender Office, Detroit

Wayne Law created the fellowships in 2009 to give students opportunities to gain practical experience in public interest law before graduation, ease student financial stresses and offer much-needed assistance to organizations providing legal services to underserved constituencies.

Fellowship recipients are selected each year by a committee of Wayne Law faculty members, staff, and alumni. Wayne Law Alumna Erin Gianopoulos was instrumental in raising funds again this year for the PILF program through the Wayne Law Silent Auction.
