Large Number of returners for
C-S girls basketball team
By Bruce Rolfe
A group of eight returners from last year’s squad that finished 15-7 leaves Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball coach Chip Paddock optimistic heading into the season opener December 4 at White Pigeon.
After moving through a 14-6 regular season, C-S advanced to the district championship game with a 48-27 win over Calhoun Christian, however the Lady Panthers fell to St. Phil, a team C-S defeated twice during the regular season, 41-36 in the district title game for a 15-7 finish.
Paddock, entering his sixth year as the Lady Panther varsity coach, hopes the disappointing loss in the district championship game and a roster filled with returning experience will bring motivation this season.
Paddock will have a roster dotted with significant playing experience at each grade level.
Lylah Parrish (guard) is the lone senior returning. Juniors returning include Holly Talbert (forward), Addy Reeves (center/forward), Sophie Braithwaite (guard), Ashlynn Gilbert (forward) and Chloe Czuk (forward). Annabelle Edwards (center-forward) and Kendall Reitz (guard) are returning sophomores. Junior Stephanie Behlke (forward) is entering her first season on the squad.
Reeves, Braithwaite and Gilbert were starters in most games last season.
Edwards showed great promise as an inside scoring threat and rebounder and Reitz, who was sidelined a large portion of the season with a foot injury, offered promise from a guard position when she returned to the lineup.
“We are extremely excited about our locker room having eight returning players in there,” said the Lady Panther coach.
Paddock feels Mendon will offer tough competition in the SCAA West Division C-S plays in and Pittsford and Hillsdale Academy, two teams C-S will place once in non-conference matchups, will be strong in the SCAA East Division.
This year’s Carol Vick Memorial game against Colon is scheduled for February 7 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School, beginning with the girls game at 6 p.m.
