Adoption Day
The Family Division of the Oakland County Circuit Court
conducted its 22nd Annual Celebration of National Adoption Month on
Tuesday, November 26, in the Board of Commissioners Auditorium at the
Oakland County Courthouse in Pontiac. Michigan Supreme Court Justices
Megan Cavanagh (second from left) and Richard Bernstein (second from
right) were among the special guests at the event. Also taking part in
the celebration were (left to right) Oakland County Circuit Court Judge
Lori Savin, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Amanda Shelton, Oakland
County Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeffery Matis, Oakland County Probate
Court Chief Judge Linda Hallmark, and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge
Martha Anderson.
Celebrations
included several in-person finalization hearings. The Smith family
(pictured above) was one of the families getting adoptions finalized in
Oakland County. Typically, adoptions are finalized in private but
during National Adoption Month more than 30 courts throughout the State
of Michigan open their doors to raise awareness and to inspire more
families to consider adoption.
The
Diaz family also had an adoption finalized on November 26. In fiscal
year 2023, Oakland County finalized 263 adoption cases. Year to date
2024, Oakland County has finalized 147 adoption cases.
