Bloomfield Township Senior Services celebrates National Caregivers Day on February 21

This year, in recognition of National Caregivers Day on February 21, Bloomfield Township Senior Services would like to remind residents about available programs for assistance and guidance to our family caregivers:

• Caregiver Connect

Caregiver Connect is a guided program offering respite, information, and programs while their care receiver is engaged in complimentary adult day service in our Friendship Club. Funding provided by Exhale, the Family Caregiver Initiative. Learn more at the Senior Center on February 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. about Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center therapeutic programs, and
Hospice of MI will provide information on little-known but important dementia support programs.

• Friendship Club

A social model Adult Day Service, Friendship Club offers engaging, fail-free, and safe programming for older adults experiencing dementia or memory challenges. Friendship Club is dedicated to assisting people to maintain their highest level of ability through social connection in an encouraging environment. This program is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Companion Café

Welcoming events for individuals who are memory challenged and their caregivers is at the heart of Companion Café. Together you will participate in something creative, social and enjoy games, music, art, professional entertainment, as well as camaraderie and refreshments in a safe, positive and supportive setting. Funding provided by Exhale, the Family Caregiver Initiative. Learn more at the Senior Center on March 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. about Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and create a mini work of art as well. Experience Sound Healing Meditation too.

Township Senior Services Director Christine Tvaroha noted, “Family caregivers may not prioritize their wellness, so we’re offering respite time for them and socialization and engagement for their loved one.”

For those who have interest in any of these programs, call 248-723-3500 with any questions and to register. Programs are complimentary for Bloomfield Township residents caring for people with dementia and are funded via Exhale, The Caregiver Initiative.
