Interns/externs sought for
MAACS summer program

The Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System (MAACS), a division of the State Appellate Defender Office (SADO), is seeking law students for internship and externship opportunities  over the summer.

MAACS is responsible for the recruitment, training and oversight of private attorneys who accept court appointed appeals from the state’s circuit courts. Those attorneys handle 75% of all court appointed appeals pending in the Michigan appellate courts.

SADO is the public defender office that represents clients in the remaining 25% of cases.

Under the supervision of MAACS Deputy Administrator Patricia Maceroni, students will work with roster attorneys on all aspects of appellate representation.

To apply, submit a PDF with a letter of interest, resume and writing sample to MAACS Deputy Administrator Patricia Maceroni at pmaceroni@sado.org.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 1.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Attorney General and Legal Services of South Central Michigan.

Registration is open online (https://bit.ly/sjm25_cooley) for those wishing to have their convictions expunged. Limited walk-in appointments will be accepted on the day of the event.
