WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI., – The Washtenaw County Historic Preservation Program has been awarded the 2025 Government/Institution Award by the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.
This award recognizes the County’s significant accomplishments to support historic districts, spur heritage tourism, and attract investment in the County’s rich and diverse historic resources.
Washtenaw County is Michigan's only countywide Certified Local Government (CLG) - providing access to additional economic development resources. The County-wide Historic Preservation Program selects areas for preservation while assisting with development. This allows the County to plan for the future while honoring the past.
In 2024, the Historic Preservation Program successfully completed multiple projects including mapping of Native American resources throughout the County, adding a new Local Historic District in Scio Township, and relaunching multiple heritage tourism projects. In 2025, the County will continue CLG grant funded work to complete a historic resource survey in Northfield Township and rehabilitation
of Gordon Hall in Dexter.
Washtenaw County’s Historic Preservation Program is situated in the Office of Community and Economic Development.
