Filing deadline for City Council elections is April 22

Elections for Jackson City Council seats in Wards 1, 3 and 5 are taking place this year. The deadline to file paperwork to qualify for the August Primary Election is 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 22.

The City Clerk’s Office encourages residents to file their paperwork as soon as possible so any potential issue with documents can be resolved before deadline. The City Clerk’s Office, on the First Floor of City Hall, 161 W. Michigan Ave., has packets available for residents interested in running for office. You must be a resident of the ward you are running to represent on the City Council. A City of Jackson ward map is available on the City website.

After a successful filing, candidates will proceed to the Primary Election on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The top two candidates with the most votes in each ward election will move forward to the Tuesday, Nov. 4, election, where City Council seats will be officially decided by voters.

The next election for Mayor is in 2026. City Council seats for Wards 2, 4 and 6 are up for re-election in 2028.
