Clinton Township woman sentenced for second-degree murder and child abuse

A Clinton Township woman, Sierra Pearl Zaitona, age 29, was sentenced after being convicted of Murder Second-Degree and Child Abuse Second-Degree.

On March 16, 2023, law enforcement and emergency medical services in Clinton Township were called to a home where they found Zaitona’s two-year-old son dead on arrival. After an investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department, she was charged with Murder Second-Degree and Child Abuse Second-Degree.

On February 18, 2025, Zaitona was convicted by 16th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Anthony R. Servitto of Count 1: Homicide, Murder Second-Degree, and Count 2: Child Abuse Second-Degree. The defendant pled no contest as charged.

On April 9, 2025, Servitto sentenced Zaitona on Count 1: Homicide, Murder Second-Degree to 24 years to 50 years, and Count 2: Child Abuse Second-Degree to 43 months to 10 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. The sentences for the two counts will run concurrently. The defendant will receive credit for 754 days already served in the Macomb County Jail. Zaitona will also be listed on Michigan’s Central Registry for Child Abuse and Neglect pursuant to Wyatt’s Law on Count 2.

"The tragic circumstances surrounding this case are heartbreaking as they involve the loss of a young life. An entire family is also permanently impacted in a terrible way. Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope this resolution brings some measure of healing and closure while providing justice for the victim," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
