Warren man sentenced to 50 years in prison for sexually assaulting two minors

A Warren man, Christopher Michael Rushing, was sentenced on Thursday, May 29, to 50 years in prison after being found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting two minors in July 2013.

The jury found Rushing guilty of four (4) counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree (Person Under Thirteen, Defendant Seventeen Years of Age or Older). Judge Richard Caretti sentenced Rushing to 25-50 years in prison on each of the four counts. The prison term for counts one and two will run consecutively to counts three and four. Rushing will not be parole eligible for 50 years.

Rushing was found guilty on all counts after a two-day trial on March 25 and April 1. The trial was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Darrian Fortier. The jury’s guilty verdict came back after less than two hours of deliberations.

“This verdict and sentence send a clear message: those who prey on our most vulnerable, our children, will be held fully accountable. The strength and courage shown by the victims and their families throughout this process is nothing short of heroic,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “I commend Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Darrian Fortier for her skillful and dedicated prosecution of this case, and I thank the jury for their swift and just verdict. Our office remains steadfast in our commitment to protecting the community and pursuing justice for all victims of crime.”
