Lady Rams no-hit in district opener
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball teams’ offense was completely shut down by Kalamazoo Christian pitching in a 13-0, three-inning loss to the Comets May 31 in the district tournament at Parchment.
The Lady Rams finish the season with a 4-19 record.
G-A did not record a hit and the only runner to reach base was a one out Kaylee Bastian walk in the third inning.
The Comets broke the game open with a 12-run third inning.
Lili Thompson suffered the loss, allowing seven hits, 12 earned runs, and seven walks with three strikeouts in two innings pitched.

Two G-A athletes compete at State Finals
Galesburg-Augusta had two athletes compete in three events at the Division 3 Track and Field State Finals at Kent City High School May 31, however both Rams fell short of finishing in the top 8 for an all-state medal.
Senior Jaidyn Klimp finished 24th in the high jump with a height of 4’9” and the G-A senior finished 18th in the long jump with a distance of 15’5.75”.
Klimp also qualified to compete in the 400-meter run, but G-A coach Paul Schab said she injured her quad muscle in the long jump competition and could not compete in the 400-meter event.
Freshman Kayla Bortolussi finished 23rd in the long jump with a distance of 15’2.5”.
Both Rams finished with shorter heights and distances then their qualifying marks.
Klimp was ranked 11th in the long jump with a qualifying distance of 16’6”. She was ranked 13th in the high jump with a qualifying height of 5’2”.
Bortolussi was ranked 30th in the long jump with a qualifying distance of 15’9”, which was a personal record.

G-A baseball team falls in
district championship game
After pounding out 12 hits in a 11-1 win over Delton-Kellogg in the district semifinal game, the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team was held to two hits in a 10-0 loss to Olivet in the district championship game May 31 at Olivet.
The Rams complete the season with a 17-10 record.
A single by Ashton Matrau in the first inning and a double by Jaden Fawcett in the fourth inning, were the lone hits G-A could manage off Eagle starting pitcher Trip Burkett in the district championship game.
G-A Starting pitcher Alex Krugh suffered the loss. He allowed three hits, one earned run and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings worked.
Jonah Ranes and Ashton Matrau each pounded out three hits and Fawcett scattered four hits across five innings to lead G-A to a 11-1 win over Delton-Kellogg in the semifinal game.
Matrau, who finished the season with a .456 average and 24 RBI, had a triple and one RBI. Ranes finished with two RBI, Ethan Gibson had two hits and three RBI and Coleson Blake had two hits and two RBI.
Fawcett allowed one earned run and one walk while striking out four for the win.

Hackett Tops G-A in Regular Season Finale
Hackett Prep pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to register a 8-2 win over the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team May 27 at G-A High School in the regular season finale.
Hackett took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, however G-A pulled to within one in the bottom of the inning on a Wes Hoffman RBI single.
The Irish responded with a run in the top of the third, but the Rams came right back scoring on a balk in the bottom of the third inning.
Kameron Prince had a double and Ethan Gibson and Ashton Matrau each had singles in the inning.
Alex Krugh suffered the loss, allowing two hits, two earned runs and a walk in two innings pitched. He struck out two batters.
