The grants will allow Oakland County employers to train 775 workers including more than 250 apprentices. Since its inception, the Going PRO Talent Fund has awarded more than $27 million to 700-plus Oakland County employers, helping to train more than 20,000 people. These efforts support the county’s ambitious Oakland80 goal to have 80 percent of Oakland County residents earn a college degree or skills certification by 2030.
“The Going PRO Talent Fund fuels economic growth by ensuring Oakland County has a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market,” said Oakland County Executive David Coulter. “By partnering with local employers, we're helping connect people to training opportunities and high-paying, fulfilling jobs.”
BrightStar Care, headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, provides home care services across the country for people of all ages, including companionship, hygiene and mobility assistance, in-home blood draws and skilled nursing care. The company received a $105,000 Going PRO Talent Fund grant to train 29 existing employees, including two apprentices and 29 new hires.
“We are honored to receive this grant, which reaffirms our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care,” said Becky Hutchison, director of nursing/education and training, BrightStar Care. “This funding will empower our caregivers and nurses with the training, tools, and support they need to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we provide service for every day.”
Oakland County Michigan Works! Staff work closely with employers to apply for the Going PRO Talent Fund grants. Employers identify their essential short-term training needs and then submit tailored training plans as part of the application process.

Statewide, LEO awarded $16 million in Going Pro Talent Fund grants to 297 businesses during the second cycle, benefiting more than 7,800 workers, including 1,788 registered apprentices. Since its inception in 2014, the program has helped more than 7,400 businesses train more than 225,000 workers across Michigan.
“The Going PRO Talent Fund is a powerful example of how we’re investing in people and the future of Michigan’s economy,” said LEO Director Susan Corbin. “By connecting workers to training that leads to good-paying, secure jobs and helping businesses develop the talent they need to grow, we’re creating real opportunity across every region of the state.”
Oakland County Michigan Works! operates centers in Novi, Oak Park, Pontiac, Southfield, Troy, and Waterford, where they assist more than 105,000 job seekers annually. Services include career coaching, job search and interviewing workshops, placement assistance, training courses and job trend information.
The centers also assist more than 3,000 employers seeking help with talent recruitment, apprenticeship programs, job fairs, candidate pre-screening, hiring and training support, layoff support and labor market data.
Staff are available in-person or by virtual appointment to work one-on-one with job seekers to build resumes, prepare for job interviews and help address other needs.
