Obituary

Timothy Jordan Currier Sr.

Timothy Jordan Currier Sr. passed away peacefully on July 23  with his family by his side.

Currier was a graduate of Brother Rice High School, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Detroit School of Law.

Currier began his practice at Dell, Shantz, Booker, and Schulte PC before becoming a partner at Beier Howlett PC where he was quickly appointed and remained CEO for many years. He proudly served as the city attorney for the City of Birmingham for over thirty years, and represented many other municipalities, school districts, and organizations in the Metro Detroit Area.

Currier was the past president of the University of Detroit Club, the Brother Rice High School Alumni Association, and the University of Notre Dame Detroit Alumni Club, where he was also a valued board member. He supported many charitable institutions affiliated with these organizations.

Currier was a motivational and even-handed coach of all things—whether it was getting his children up on water skis on his home away from home, Walloon Lake, coaching his children’s teams, coming home from hours of work and being a late-night tutor, watching too many figure skating and Irish dance competitions, and applauding many piano recitals. He spent hundreds of hours cheering on the sidelines for his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, right up until the end of his journey. He was always an enthusiast of his wife Ellen’s volunteer commitments.

Currier is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ellen; children Mary Bridget (Jeffrey), Meghan, Timothy (Toby), and Courtney; grandchildren Owen, Reilly, Avi, and Jesse; brother Michael J. Currier (Patty); and countless members of his extended family and godchildren.

A funeral mass will take place Friday, August 1, at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon in Birmingham. Visitation at church begins at 9 a.m. Irish wake to follow.  Arrangements are coordinated by A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The University of Notre Dame, memo line: “ND Club of Detroit Scholarship, Tim Currier,” 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
