Elizabeth Rios-Jones of Lansing has been appointed to the Michigan Interagency Council on Homelessness. A deputy state court administrator in the Michigan State Court Administrative Office, Rios-Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology as well as a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan. Her term expires January 30, 2026.
Dr. Laurence Alexander of Flint has been named to the Michigan Education Trust Board of Directors. Alexander is the 10th chancellor and a professor of communications at the University of Michigan-Flint. Alexander took office in 2024 and was previously chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Prior to that role, Dr. Alexander served 22 years as a professor and administrator at the University of Florida. In 2022, Alexander was also appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as chair of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development. Alexander earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of New Orleans, a Master of Arts in journalism and communications from the University of Florida, a Juris Doctor from Tulane University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education from Florida State University.
Alexander is appointed to represent presidents of state institutions of higher education for a term expiring December 31, 2027. Alexander succeeds Brock Tessman, who has resigned.
Ashley Prew of Fenton has been named to the Michigan Health Division Council. A senior assistant prosecuting attorney for Genesee County, Prew previously was a counsel attorney at Prew Law, P.C. and an attorney at Williams & Knack. Prew holds a Bachelor of Science in political science and legal studies from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. Prew is appointed to represent prosecutors for a term expiring January 30, 2029.
