The Eighth Annual Patriots Race, presented by White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, has several new features leading up to and the day of the event. Notably, the War on Terror Wall of Remembrance (WOR) will be making its first-ever appearance in Michigan from September 5-7 at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery. Moreover, a free country music concert will feature Marine veteran recording artists Stephen Cochran and Sal Gonzalez. Flint’s-own Billy Gunther will participate as well.
—War on Terror Wall of Remembrance
The community is invited to visit The War on Terror Remembrance Wall from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from September 5-7. The WOR is the only traveling Memorial Wall paying tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice dating from 1983 Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks bombing, through the 2021 withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan. The WOR has provided memories and closure to countless Veterans and Gold Star Families as well as to those families and First Responders impacted by the attacks on 9/11.
—Eighth Annual Patriots Race
The Eighth Annual Patriots Race will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery to benefit the Michigan Wounded & Returning Warrior Program, a 501(c)3, American Legion member organization supporting veterans.
This year’s event marks the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. Accordingly, there will be a moment of silence at 9:03 a.m. in memory of the 9/11 Tower 2 attack.
In competitive runners’ circles, White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery’s 210-acre park-like setting is appealing and known for having the flattest and fastest course in Michigan.
