September is Suicide Awareness Month. In recognition, the Momentum Center invites the community to a Dinner and Movie Night on Friday, Sept. 12, featuring “The Son,” a powerful psychological drama produced in 2022 about parenting and suicide starring Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern.
The event will take place at the Momentum Center’s Grand Haven location at 401 N. 7th St. This event is sponsored by Lake Michigan Credit Union.
The film follows teenager Nicholas as he struggles with depression and isolation, forcing his divorced parents to confront their past and fight to support him. It explores buried emotions, miscommunication, and the fragile dynamics between parent and child.
Dinner will be served beginning at 5 p.m., with the film starting at 6 p.m. in the Momentum Center’s spacious community events room. “The Son” is rated PG-13 with a running time of 2 hours and 3 minutes.
While free and open to the public, the event should not be considered light entertainment due to its intense and emotional themes. People should feel free to come for dinner and not stay for the movie which deals honestly and directly with suicide.
The Momentum Center is creating a community where every person is fully visible and connected. For questions, call (616) 414-9111 or email hello@momentumcentergh.org.
