Wayne Law’s Levin Center offers free civic education resources for the classroom

Learning by Hearings, the civic education team at the Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy at Wayne State University Law School, has launched new free classroom resources which include two inquiry-based lessons, two video resources, and two stand-alone Snapshots. 

The resources examine key aspects of U.S. History and Civics through the perspective of congressional oversight. The new resources include:

Lessons: 


• Bipartisan Congressional Investigations: Can bipartisanship bring us closer to our Democratic Values?

• The Lavendar Scare: How did fear shape the federal government’s actions during the Cold War?

• The Truman Committee Investigation: How important is congressional oversight in times of crisis?

Snapshots: 


• A high-level look at congressional investigations

• Congress Investigates KKK Violence During Reconstruction

• Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Issues Related to the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

The resources are designed by teachers, for teachers. They are suitable for use in high school U.S. History and Civics classrooms in Michigan and are aligned to the MI High School Content Expectations and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards.
