A Detroit native, Klaasen earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, and was a member of the State Bar of Michigan for over 50 years.
After graduating, he worked as an attorney with the Court of Appeals in Lansing, then, moved to Jackson to work for the law firm of Rosenberg, Painter, Stanton and Bullen. He later became a partner in the firm of Bullen, Moilanen, Klaasen and Swan.
He was involved in numerous community activities including: Love Inc., Habitat for Humanity, The Exchange Club of Jackson, church board member and usher, past president of the Jackson County Bar Association, twice Commodore of the Clark Lake Yacht Club, and a regular Red Cross blood donor.
A small memorial service of family and close friends will be held next spring or summer. Donations are welcome to The Parkinson's Foundation especially for research in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
