Michigan CASA conference taking place in Detroit

Michigan CASA is conducting its 2025 State Conference on Monday and Tuesday, October 27-28, at the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are everyday people who are appointed by judges to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children living within the foster care system.  A CASA volunteer advocates for one child's case until he/she is placed into a safe, permanent and loving home.

The 2025 State Conference conference brings together CASA volunteers, staff, and supporters from across the state for two days of professional development, networking, and inspiration.

Breakout sessions planned for this year’s conference include:

• Advocating For Older Youth
• Healing Systems: Community Insights to Transform Health Solutions for Youth in Foster Care
• Practical Strategies for Staying Safe While Serving Others
• Navigating the Landscape of Child Welfare
• Caring for Self While Caring for Others: Stress and Vicarious Trauma
• Why Children Run
• Childhood Trauma and the Developing Brain
• Belonging Begins with Us: Combating Internalized Queerphobia with Community and the Development of Self
• Building Safety with LGBTQ+ Youth in Care
• Strategies for Giving Voice and Supporting Black Boys in K-12 Institutions
• Triple Threat: Teenagers, Talking and Trauma

This year will also feature two keynote speakers:

—Andrew Bridge brings a unique perspective as both a noted lawyer and passionate advocate for children’s rights. As the author of several best-selling books that chronicle his life and legal career, Bridge understands firsthand the systems that impact vulnerable children and will share insights that resonate deeply with Michigan CASA’s mission.

—Gaelin Elmore is a respected trainer, speaker, and expert on creating environments of belonging within organizations and communities. His expertise will explore how to build more inclusive and supportive spaces for the children and families that CASA serves.
