Webinar focuses on recent search and seizure case law
The State Appellate Defender Office and the Criminal Defense Resource Center will present a webinar on “Search & Seizure Update: Recent Cases and Emerging Issues” Tuesday, Oct. 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.
This training will provide attorneys with an update on recent search and seizure caselaw and will address emerging issues in search and seizure litigation.
Those attending will receive practical guidance for litigating suppression motions and preserving issues for appeal.
Speaking at the training will be Jason Eggert, a research and training attorney in the Criminal Defense Resource Center (CDRC).

The Michigan Judicial Institute will present “PSC Best Practice Series: Proximal, Distal, and Managed Goals Webinar” hosted by Problem-Solving Courts (PSC) on Thursday, Oct. 23, from noon to 1:15 p.m. via Zoom.
This webinar will detail how to classify participant goals by difficulty level to inform the appropriate responses to achievements or infractions.
Proximal goals should be achievable in the short term and sustainable for a reasonable period, whereas distal goals are those that are too difficult for the participant to accomplish currently. Managed goals are those that have been achieved and sustained for a reasonable period of time.

Webinar examines sentencing guidelines in CSC cases
The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Child Abuse Prosecution Resources (CAPR) and the Violence Against Women Project (VAWP) will present a “Sentencing Guidelines Workshop In Criminal Sexual Conduct Cases” on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Auburn Hills Public Safety Building in Auburn Hills.
Attendees will review Michigan’s Sentencing Guideline and the latest case law as well as explore sentencing considerations in both adult and child sexual assault cases.
This training is for prosecutors only and satisfies 7 hours of continuing legal education for purposes of PAAM’s Best Practices Recommendation.
