The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is proud to announce that Francesca Albanese, international human rights lawyer and United Nations special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, will be a distinguished guest at its annual “Spirit of Humanity” Awards & Dinner Gala on Friday, October 24, in Dearborn.
AHRC will present Albanese with its 2025 “Spirit of Humanity Award,” honoring her as a global peacemaker and champion of justice. Her commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity has inspired communities worldwide and exemplifies the spirit of humanity in action.
This marks Albanese’s first public address to the Michigan community. As an advocate for human rights—especially in defense of the Palestinian people—she has spoken out against abuses and humanitarian crises in Gaza and the West Bank, calling for accountability and the protection of civilian lives.
Appointed in 2022, Albanese is the first woman to serve as UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. An Italian international lawyer and expert in refugee rights, she earned degrees from the University of Pisa and SOAS, University of London, and co-authored Palestinian Refugees in International Law.
Her career spans the United Nations, academia, and civil society. Currently a senior advisor at the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), she continues to champion justice through her reports and advocacy, undeterred by political backlash.
Albanese’s principled leadership and compassionate voice have sparked a global movement for human rights and peace. AHRC is honored to welcome her to Michigan.
