C-S football coach placed on paid administrative leave

Climax-Scotts varsity football coach Tyler Langs has been placed on paid administrative leave according to the school district’s superintendent.

C-S Superintendent Doug Newington said the school district has received some complaints and is simply following through with an investigation.

Langs is also athletic director and dean of students at C-S.

In a statement offered by the school district, Newington said, “The district has received complaints regarding the current football coach. The district will not comment on the allegations within those complaints and is consulting with legal counsel to complete a thorough investigation. During this investigation the football coach will remain on paid administrative leave from his employment within the district in all capacities. We hope this process will move swiftly and reach a final conclusion in the coming days.”

When reached for a response, Langs did not want to comment at this time.

Langs, currently in his fourth season as varsity head football coach at C-S, was not on the sidelines at the regular season finale at Pittsford last Friday.

Newington said how fast the investigation process moves forward will determine if Langs will be able to return to coach C-S in the first playoff game at Gobles October 31.

Current C-S assistant coach and former head coach Kevin Langs coached the team in the regular season finale at Pittsford in Tyler’s absence.

He is expected to fill the head coach role for C-S’ playoff opener at Gobles if the school district’s investigation is not complete and his son Tyler is not able to coach.

Tyler Langs served as co-head coach with his father, Hall of Fame and long time C-S varsity football coach Kevin Langs, in 2021 at C-S before taking over the head coaching job on his own in 2022.

A 2006 graduate of C-S High School, Tyler was the starting quarterback for the 2004 State Champion C-S football team and was an All-State selection in 2005 as a defensive specialist. He attended Wheaton University where he played four years including three as a starting defensive back.

Langs served as the head football coach at Delaware County Christian School in 2013 and 2014 before returning to Michigan.

He was athletic director, dean of students, and varsity football head coach at Unionville Sebewang Area Schools in 2015 and 2016, was athletic director, dean of students and head varsity football coach at Centreville in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and served as an assistant coach at Plainwell.

Tyler was hired by the C-S School District to take over the dean of students role his father held since 2012 and the athletic director position his father served in since 2000, beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.
