G-A falls to Bronson
in district championship
An impressive win in three games by the Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team over Union City in the semifinals November 5 sent the Rams into the district championship match the following day with confidence.
But G-A ran into a tough Bronson team, falling in three games, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.
G-A was competitive in all three games against the Division 3 honorable mention ranked Vikings.
“We knew Bronson would be tough. However after the Union City game, we knew we could beat them. Coach Fox and I saw our team pull together on Wednesday (against Union City) and compete in a game to win,” said G-A coach Jonica Klimp.
The Lady Ram coach said while her team had quite a bit of success getting balls to hitters for kill attempts against Union City, those opportunities weren’t happening as much against Bronson.
“Some losses are harder then others, and I believe this was my toughest one yet. Knowing the potential of the athletes on our team, and not be able to put into words to encourage and motivate them was hard. We are sad to see our seniors go, however, Coach Fox and I are excited to continue to build this program into a positive and winning environment,” observed Klimp.
Lily Gilbert led the team in digs with 15, however Lexi Coburn added 13 digs to go with a team high 19 assists.
Kayla Bortolussi had a team high nine kills and Wende Trines added eight kills. Grace Gibson had a team high three aces.

G-A Advances To District Championship Match
The Rams looked determined from the start in the semifinal win over Union City in three games, 25-19, 25-14, 27-25.
Ram coach Jonica Klimp said the three set win over the Chargers was one of the best games she has seen her team play this season.
“They wanted this win from the first serve on,” said the G-A coach.
Klimp said junior setter Lexi Coburn, who had 19 assists, did a good job spreading out the offense among the hitters, making it hard for Union City to defend.
The Ram coach adds a good match defensively by her team put Coburn in a position to have many options.
“Coach Fox and I were so proud to watch these girls pull together and play their best,” said Klimp.
Lily Gilbert led the team with 18 digs and Coburn added 14 digs.
