Woman Injured in Pin-In Crash

A 21-year-old Holland woman was injured last Friday in a two-vehicle crash near the Blendon Township Hall, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at 8:18 p.m. at the intersection of Tyler Street and 72nd Avenue.

According to investigators, a white Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 20-year-old Zeeland woman was headed eastbound on Tyler when it failed to yield the right-of-way to a black Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 35-year-old Hudsonville man that was headed northbound on 72nd, resulting in a collision.

The 21-year-old Holland woman was a front-seat passenger in the Jetta and was briefly pinned inside the vehicle. She was extricated by Blendon Township Fire rescue crews and taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Tyler Van Doeselaar of the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The driver of the Jetta and another passenger, a 1-year-old girl from Zeeland, were not hurt in the crash. The driver of the Suburban, along with a 34-year-old Hudsonville woman and five children, ranging in age from 2 to 9 years old, escaped injury as well.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
