Three players from Zeeland’s high schools have been named to the Michigan Associated Press All-State team for Divisions 3 and 4 for their performance on the field this past fall.
West junior running back Brandon Holman and West senior defensive lineman Mason Myers were first team All-State selections as voted on by sportswriters around the state, while East junior wide receiver Isaiah Boonstra was named second team All-State.
Holman had a spectacular season for the Dux on both sides of the football, scoring 26 touchdowns in leading West to the regional round of the state playoffs. He had a five-touchdown performance in a district final victory at St. Joseph.
Holman rushed for 1,436 yards on 198 carries, averaging 7.2 yards a carry, and scored 18 of his touchdowns on the ground. He was also the leading receiver for the Dux, catching 17 passes for 394 yards and six more touchdowns. In addition, he averaged 28.4 yards per kickoff return, including an 83-yard return for a touchdown against Whitehall.
Holman was also a force defensively, making 64 tackles and picking off four interceptions, including one he returned 62 yards for a touchdown in the season opener against Detroit Old Redford.
A three-year varsity starter for West, Myers was a stalwart performance for a Dux defense that held four of their opponents to 14 points or less. He made 39 tackles on the season, 12 of them for losses. In addition, Myers was a starting offensive guard, helping anchor a line that averaged 32 points per game for the season and 37.3 points per game in the postseason.
Boonstra had a breakout season for East, catching 46 passes for 814 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 117 yards and another score. In the regular season finale against Hamilton, he caught seven passes for 161 yards.
