Each year, the historical 176+ fairgrounds, under the direction of the Calhoun County Agricultural and Industrial Society (a non-profit organization) hosts a mile long drive-through Christmas light display. This annual event brings patrons from all over Michigan and Indiana who joyfully experience the lights, displays, featured activities and musical scenes.

This year’s event at the county fairgrounds in Marshall continues until December 28 (Every Thursday-Sunday), 6 to 9 p.m. $10 per car, $20 (9 passenger).

Special activities include participants driving hours away to go through the lighted mile long path. Kids will enjoy visiting with Santa as they tell their wishes for Christmas. Santa will visit throughout December on Saturdays – December 6th, 13th, & 20th from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Floral Hall (park on west end and enter by main gate). Kids will receive a small item and a cookie. The Calhoun County 4H Council will host a craft night for the kids on December 6th during Santa’s visit. There will be a live nativity held on Friday & Saturday night December 12th & 13th from 6 to 9 p.m., and you can listen to 101.9 for the story as you drive through or visit Floral Hall and observe the display from the North wing. All activities in Floral Hall and live nativity are free.

Country Christmas route will start at the fair entrance underneath a tunnel full of lights and you tune into radio station 101.9 to hear Christmas music to enhance your magical experience. Participants will travel slowly through the mile long fairgrounds to see all the displays glistening against newly fallen snow. A crowd favorite is our “music scene” located on the Southeast end. This display has lights dancing to the Christmas songs playing on 101.9.   Visitors of all ages have a rare opportunity to experience this magically lighted mile long trail and reminisce about their favorite memories and stories.

We appreciate the support of our community and patrons from near and far who visit each year, bringing their children, pets, and family. We look forward to making this event a family tradition of Christmas spirit, family time and grateful for the generosity in those who donate to this event.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will continue to benefit an infrastructure project on the 176+year-old grounds. Improvements include the fronts of the animal barns, new horse arena, electrical repairs, and other structure repairs.

Fairgrounds Manager Cathy Combs stated on behalf of the fair board, “We express extreme gratitude to all our volunteers, committee members, sponsors, and staff for making Merry Mile and the Christmas season even brighter.”
