Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Jennifer Hayes, a 30-year-old resident of Clinton Township, was sentenced after being convicted by a jury of Assault with Intent to Murder.
On Thursday, January 8, Hayes was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer M. Faunce for a single count of Assault with Intent to Murder. The judge sentenced Hayes to 10.5 to 30 years (125-360 months) in the Michigan Department of Corrections. Hayes is to have no contact with the victim directly or indirectly while serving her sentence. She is ordered to pay the victim restitution under the Crime Victim’s Rights Act.
The conviction stems from a July 3, 2024, incident in which Hayes stabbed her boyfriend multiple times with two knives causing him severe life-threatening injuries. The attack began while the victim was sleeping in their home in Clinton Township. He suffered a total of 14 stab wounds, including one to the side of his neck. It took at least four hours for the victim to be discovered by a neighbor who immediately contacted emergency services. The victim was transported to the hospital where he underwent life-saving treatment by the emergency room staff. The victim receives ongoing medical and therapeutic treatment to address the lasting effects caused by this incident.
Hayes was convicted by a Macomb County jury on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, following a five-and-a-half-day jury trial led by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Maria Panchenko and Carrie Seward. The verdict was delivered after fewer than five hours of deliberation.
“Today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of this defendant’s actions and the lasting harm caused to the victim. Violent crime will not be tolerated in Macomb County, and my office remains committed to holding offenders fully accountable under the law. Our mission is, and will continue to be, to protect the public and ensure the safety of our communities,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
