Silent Paint Party set February 23


Celebrate Black History Month with "Labor of Love," a silent paint and sip party honoring the Black labor movement. 

The event is set 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, at the Norton Shores branch of the Muskegon Area District Library.

Using personal earpieces, enjoy a curated playlist featuring soulful music, spoken word, and historical narratives in peaceful silence. 

Let the legacy of the Black labor movement guide your creativity as you honor Black American contributions through art.

‘Gershwin’s Piano Concerto’
set February 27


The  West Michigan Symphony will present ‘Gershwin’s Piano Concert’ at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 27, at the Frauenthal Center.

The concert will feature a musical program that reflects the influences of American jazz, African-American spirituals and folk themes. 

With Kellen Gray, conductor; Michelle Cann, piano; Michael Ellis Ingram, Overture to Jubilee Gershwin Concerto in F; and the Dawson Negro Folk Symphony.

‘Crossroads’ Exhibit at MMA
to run through March 15


“Crossroads: Intersections of Black Family Culture” is an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring the cultural significance of Black family dynamics in the Americas.

Organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art in partnership with co-curators Sydney G. James, Scheherazade Washington-Parrish, and Juana Williams, the exhibition comprises artworks of twenty artists from the Detroit area.

The show will run through March 15.
