Ada Kerwin

Ada Snyder Kerwin, 77, passed away on January 14.

Kerwin was born in Detroit, where she spent most of her life. A proud alumna of both the University of Michigan and Mumford High School, Kerwin practiced law for more than four decades, including 15 years as a criminal defense attorney and 30 years in family law with Clark Hill in Birmingham. Earlier in her professional life, she worked as a master’s level psychologist and taught high school.

Kerwin served for more than a decade on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood of Michigan and remained an active supporter following her board service.

Kerwin was married to William (Bill) Brukoff for 22 years. Their relationship began professionally as legal adversaries in two contentious divorce cases and grew into a deep, enduring partnership.

Kerwin is survived by Bill, her brother Murray M. Snyder, and his partner, Joan Bornstein; her brother Daniel R. Snyder; her daughter, Avery Waxman; her former son-in-law Mark Waxman; her beloved granddaughter Parker; in addition to Bill’s family including Bill’s son, David Brukoff and Bill’s daughter, Patti Brukoff and her husband, Lawrence Robertson; along with their children: David’s son, Will, and Patti and Lawrence’s three children: Benek, Stella, and Nina.

A funeral service was  conducted Sunday, January 18, by the Ira Kaufman Chapel.  It is suggested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Kerwin may do so by making a contribution to Planned Parenthood.
