Girls JV basketball team downs Parchment
Claire Callender, with 14 points and Sophia Dohm, with 11 points, led the Rams.
JV boys move to 11-0
A 57-31 win over Delton-Kellogg January 15, and a 69-35 victory over Parchment January 13 sent the Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team into a January 20 road game at Allegan with a 11-0 record.
Colton Weenink and Connor Welker each scored 11 points and Vincent Finedell added 10 points in the win over Delton-Kellogg.
G-A Downs Parchment
The Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team had three players reach double figures in scoring, helping the Rams to a 69-35 win over Parchment January 13 at G-A High School.
Connor Welker scored 26 points to lead G-A in scoring while Jerome Bailey added 17 points and Hunter Pritchard pitched in with 10 points.
Rams drop two close games
G-A, now 4-6, suffered a 60-57 loss at Delton-Kellogg January 16 three days after the team dropped a 64-55 decision at Parchment.
G-A trailed Delton-Kellogg 46-38 entering the fourth quarter, and outscored the Panthers 18-14 in the final quarter, however Delton-Kellogg took advantage of eight more free throw attempts in the final stanza (8-13).
G-A got to the free throw line five times in the fourth quarter, making four of those attempts.
Delton-Kellogg, behind five three-point baskets, got off to a good start, taking a 24-13 lead into the second quarter.
The Panthers maintained the 11-point advantage at halftime (32-21).
G-A shot 45.2 percent (19-42) overall from the floor including a warm 61.9 percent (13-21) from two-point range and 28.6 percent (6-21) from distance.
Giovanni Evans led the Rams in scoring with 16 points to go with two assists. Hunter Pritchard, who nearly brought the Rams back all by himself in the fourth quarter with 11 points, added 15 points, three rebounds and three steals. Dontrell Bowden contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Rams struggled with turnovers (19) and cool shooting in a 64-55 loss to Parchment January 13 at G-A High School.
The Rams shot 33.3% overall from the field (19-57). G-A put up 28 three-point attempts, connecting on eight of those attempts (28.6%).
The Rams trailed by an 18-14 count after one quarter, 34-29 at halftime and 50-40 after three quarters.
Gio Evans scored 17 points, Dontrell Bowden added 13 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals and Hayden Pritchard scored all nine of his points on a trio of three-point baskets to go with two blocked shots.

Lady Rams rely on strong defense in wins
The Galesburg-Augusta girls varsity basketball team continued to rely on strong defense, holding a second straight team under 30 points in a 57-28 win over Delton-Kellogg January 16 at Delton-Kellogg.
G-A, behind eight points from Grace Gibson, moved in front 12-4 after one quarter and slowly pulled away.
The Rams, now 7-2, held the Panthers to single digits in the second quarter as well, extending the lead to 24-9 at halftime.
Two Delton-Kellogg three-point baskets in the third quarter kept the score close but G-A, behind six players entering the scoring column, outscored the home team 15-8 to take a 39-17 lead after three quarters.
Brooklyn James scored 13 of her game high 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Rams outscored the Panthers 18-11.
G-A shot 37 percent (19-52) from two-point range and made 25 percent (4-16) of its three-point attempts.
Gibson finished with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals. James added 12 rebounds and Kayla Bortolussi pulled down eight rebounds.

G-A Downs Parchment
A solid defensive effort and another strong performance by senior Grace Gibson helped the Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team to a 45-20 win over Parchment January 13 at Parchment High School.
G-A held the Panthers to two baskets in the first quarter and Grace Gibson, who sank all six of her free throw attempts in the first quarter, finished with eight points in the opening stanza, helping G-A to a 13-5 lead after one quarter.
G-A held Parchment to just one three-point basket and a free throw in the second quarter on the way to a 29-9 lead at halftime.
Parchment did not score a basket from the floor against the tough G-A defense in the third quarter, managing just a pair of free throws as the Rams extended the lead to 37-11 after three quarters.
Gibson, who was 7-for-8 from the free throw line, finished with 16 points and four steals to pace the Rams.
Freshman Rayonna Alexander added eight points and four rebounds.

Wrestling team loses two matches
The Galesburg-Augusta boys wrestling team dropped two matches at a double dual at Schoolcraft January 14.
Schoolcraft defeated G-A 42-36 and Allegan prevailed 66-6.
Jaxen Ray (138-pound weight class) recorded the only win for G-A in the loss to Allegan with a pin in 1:50.
Complete individual results for both matches were not available.
G-A coach Sam Blyveis said G-A forfeited three weight classes against Schoolcraft and he had several wrestlers out of the lineup against Allegan that are trying to get healthy.
G-A was scheduled to compete in the Ron Russo Classic at Kalamazoo Central January 17 but the team pulled out for rest and heal from some injuries.
“I’ve always said you have to know when to take your foot off the gas,” said Blyveis, who said the team held a video night at the high school Friday, watching Vision Quest.

Two Lady Rams place at tournament
Two members of the Galesburg-Augusta girls wrestling team placed at the Ron Russo Classic at Kalamazoo Central January 18.
Alexis Thomas (155-pound weight class) and Caitlyn Valadez (170) both placed second.
Thomas finished with a 2-1 record, picking up two wins by pins in 3:09 and 3:03 respectively.
Valadez was also 2-1 with both wins coming by pins in 2:45 and 3:54.
The pin over Otsego’s Audrey Holmes in 3:54 avenged a previous loss to the state ranked Otsego wrestler.
Gull Lake, with 122 points, won the 30-team event.
