No legionella detected in latest water samples tested at Oakland County Sheriff’s Administration Building (38E)

Oakland County on Thursday announced the latest round of Legionella testing at the Sheriff’s Administration Building (38E) shows all sampled locations returned “non-detect” results for the bacteria, reflecting strong progress in the county’s ongoing remediation efforts.

Samples collected on Jan. 13, 2026 were taken as part of the county’s investigation and confirm the effectiveness of remediation measures. Consistent with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols, samples were collected with filters temporarily removed and then reinstalled after testing.

“These results are very encouraging and show the remediation steps we’ve taken are working,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “We will continue rigorous testing and preventive practices at county facilities to ensure the health and safety of our employees and the public.”

Additional samples were collected at the Oakland County Circuit Court Tower on Jan. 13, with results expected soon. Follow-up testing will proceed at the Sheriff’s Administration Building and the Court House Tower according to the established investigation schedule through May.

Preventive practices, including routine flushing, will continue across county buildings.

In addition, routine testing has begun in other county buildings not associated with the Legionella investigation. The first samples were collected late last week, and results will be shared as they are received.
