The Zeeland Historical Society is looking for a new director.
Katelyn Bosch VerMerris, who has been the director of the historical society for the past five years, resigned from her position effective Jan. 21.
“Katelyn has served the Zeeland Historical Society with dedication and care for five years, and the Board of Trustees is deeply grateful for her leadership during this season of the organization’s work,” Historical Society Board President Ken Kolk said.
During VerMerris’ time at the historical society, she led the organization through a growth and professionalization, expanded fundraising and earned-revenue efforts, strengthened its governance and operations and broadened programming for the public, Kolk said.
“Among her contributions, Katelyn championed the development of the Zeeland Welcome Center, served on Zeeland’s 175th anniversary committee, and created new community programs for children, families, and adults,” Kolk said. “She also strengthened
partnerships with local organizations and helped position the society as a key steward of Zeeland’s history and civic life. We thank her for her commitment to the mission and wish her well in her next chapter.”
Audrey Rojo, who has served as curator for the historical society, has been named interim director as its Board of Trustees begins a search to find VerMerris’ permanent replacement.
“This moment marks not only a transition but also an opportunity to build on the strong foundation already in place and to position the Zeeland Historical Society for the future,” Kolk said.
