Zeeland Record
The Zeeland Public Schools will ask voters again this spring to approve a non-homestead millage renewal.
The 18-mill, one-year levy, which is applied to businesses, rental homes, vacation homes and other properties that are not a family’s primary residence, will go before voters on Tuesday, May 5. The levy does not affect owner-occupied homes.
“This is normal business for the district at this time of year,” ZPS Chief Financial Officer Lynn Van Kampen said.
If approved, the non-homestead tax would generate about $12,504,064 for the district during the 2027-28 school year, representing about 11-12 percent of its expected annual revenue, Van Kampen said.
The board’s Finance Committee reviewed the ballot language last month before it came before the full board.
In May 2025, the non-homestead millage renewal passed with 3,238 yes votes – about 63 percent of the total votes cast – to 1,924 no votes. That total included vote counts from both Ottawa and Allegan counties. The levy was expected to generate more than $11.3 million for ZPS for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
