Webinar looks at ‘Less Restrictive Alternatives to Guardianship’

The National Center for State Courts will present the webinar “Before Filing: Practical Tools to Determine Less Restrictive Alternatives to Guardianship” on Wednesday, Feb 11, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

Filing for adult guardianship is a serious legal action that significantly limits individual rights. Courts and other system partners can provide resources to help individuals determine whether guardianship is the most appropriate option to pursue or if a less restrictive alternative may be better.

This webinar showcases two decision-making tools: the IDEAL Guide, developed by the Maryland Judiciary; and NCSC's National Adult Guardianship Decision Helper. These practical tools help individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals determine whether guardianship is necessary before filing a petition. Attendees will learn more about these resources and see a live demonstration of how the tools can be used in practice.

Speaking at the webinar will be:

• Sarah Gibson, data scientist, NCSC
• Diane Robinson, principal court research associate, NCSC
• Nisa Subasinghe, domestic & guardianship program manager, Maryland Judiciary
• Moderator Angela Cerilli Sager, senior court management consultant, NCSC
