An investigation is underway in connection with a fire early Tuesday morning at Hope College’s DeWitt Student and Cultural Center.
Hope College Campus Safety and the Holland Fire Department responded to a report of a small electrical fire in the lower level of DeWitt, in the center of the Hope campus, about 7 a.m., college spokeswoman Stephanie Schafer said.
The fire was “held in check by the building’s fire protection system. Crews completed extinguishing the fire and ventilated smoke,” the fire department posted in a statement on its X social media account.
The building was reopened to the public several hours after the fire was reported, “with a few portions of the lower level remaining closed while cleanup and restoration (took) place,” Schafer said.
No one was in the area at the time of the fire, Schafer said.
