Two Zeeland residents escaped injury early Tuesday morning when their vehicle was struck from behind.
The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. on Quincy Street, near 100th Avenue, in Holland Township.
An investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office determined that a 47-year-old Zeeland woman was driving a 2025 Chevrolet Trax, and was stopped in the eastbound lane of Quincy waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so she could turn left into a parking lot. The Trax was struck from behind by a 2011 Jeep driven by a 31-year-old Holland woman, causing the Jeep to overturn several times, Sgt. Brandon Tubergan of the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The driver of the Jeep had to be extricated by Holland Township firefighters. She was taken via AMR Ambulance to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Trax and her passenger, a 10-year-old Zeeland girl, were not injured. Both were wearing their seatbelts, Tubergan said.
The crash caused the eastbound lane of Quincy to be shut down for a period of time while the investigation took place. An investigation into the crash by the sheriff’s office is ongoing.
