Oakland County is partnering with the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association to educate homeowners, public leaders, and businesses about solar energy options through expert-led education and the opportunity of bulk-purchasing discounts. By leveraging group buying power, the program may lower installation costs while investing in a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
“Rooftop solar is one of the most effective ways to permanently lower electric energy costs, which are expected to increase much faster than the rate of inflation,” said Chair David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak). “Solarize Oakland County is an opportunity to learn from experts and identify opportunities to reduce installation costs to increase rooftop solar across Oakland County."
Solarize Oakland County will hold multiple community meetings across the county throughout the year.
The program’s first informational event took place Tuesday at Cornerstone Community Financial Credit Union in Troy. The event will provided information on how solar energy works, the installation process, insights into financial benefits, and opportunities to connect with community leaders, neighbors and experts.
“Solarize Oakland County is about expanding access to reliable and more affordable clean energy across our community,” said Julie Lyons Bricker, Oakland County’s chief sustainability officer. “Through education and group purchasing, we’re working to lower barriers and provide clear, practical options for residents and organizations who are interested in solar. Together, we can reduce energy costs, strengthen local resilience and move toward a more sustainable future.”
