“Patriot Week renews the spirit of America by deepening the appreciation of our founding First Principles, key documents and speeches, Founding Fathers and other great patriots, and flags from our history,” said Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren, co-founder of Patriot Week his daughter Leah. “To maintain our liberties, we need to recognize not only the contributions of individuals like Patrick Henry and the Second Continental Congress, but also applaud the contributions of modern-day patriots like Nolan Finley. Senator Gary Peters has co-sponsored the U.S. Senate resolution recognizing Patriot Week, which has been unanimously passed for 7 years. We are very grateful for his fantastic support.”
The event, which will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m., is held to commemorate the anniversary of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech. The March 1775 speech by Henry served as a powerful call to action and as a rallying cry for the American Revolution.
The family-friendly event also will feature The Patriot Players’ reenactment of the Second Continental Congress debating the Declaration of Independence. Retired Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Lita Popke, who now serves as a mediator in the Detroit office of JAMS, will serve as emcee, while Henry Nelson will portray Patrick Henry.
