The Climax Township Board unanimously approved the 2026-2027 fiscal year budget at its regular meeting March 10 showing a slight decrease in estimated revenues and expenditures compared to the about to expire 2025-2026 fiscal year budget that was approved last March.
The overall 2026-2027 budget shows estimated revenues and expenditures at $912,235. The 2025-2026 budget approved last March showed estimated revenues and expenditures at $926,793.
The estimated revenues are generated from an allocated operating millage of .8269 mills the township will levy, a voter-authorized road millage of .9946 mills, a voter authorized fire millage of 1.4919 mills and various miscellaneous revenues.
The Fire Department budget shows the biggest increase in projected revenues and expenses compared to the about to expire budget when it was approved last March. The projected revenues and expenses in the 2026-2027 budget is $178,185, nearly $40,000 more then the $138,485 in estimated revenues and expenditures that was approved for the 2025-2026 budget last March. A majority of the increase in expenditures will come from fire and medical first responder services the Climax Township Fire Department will be providing in Wakeshma Township beginning April 1.
A majority of the increase in projected revenue will come from a 1-mill fire millage in place in Wakeshma Township, that will be rolled into the new Climax Township Fire Department fiscal year budget in exchange for providing the medical first responder services.
Approximately $64,778 is anticipated to be collected in Wakeshma Township for the 1-mill fire millage levy.
There is one small increase in estimated expenses under Cemetery at $59,500 compared to the $54,700 in the about to expire budget that was approved last March.
The Road Maintenance budget went from $240,182 that was approved last March to estimated expenses in the 2026-2027 budget of $230,000.
Climax Township Clerk Sarah DeBoer, Treasurer Steve Walman and Supervisor Trent Piper all declined salary increases in the new budget.
The millage levied and collected for general property on all real and personal property within the township upon the current tax roll is 3.3134 as set forth by the Tax Allocation Board, a slight increase from the 2025-2026 levy of 3.3104.
