Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido announced that Jaion Barnes, a 25-year-old man from Clinton Township, was sentenced following the February jury conviction for the murder of 23-year-old Tianna Ross, his girlfriend and the mother of his child.

Barnes was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh last Thursday.

On Count 1, Homicide – Murder – Second Degree, Barnes received a sentence of 40 to 60 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. On Count 2, Weapons – Felony Firearm, he was sentenced to 2 years, to be served consecutively and prior to the sentence for Count 1. For Count 3, Weapons – Firearms – Possession by a Felon, Barnes was sentenced to 365 days in the Macomb County Jail, with credit for 800 days served.

Additionally, Barnes was prohibited from contacting the complaining witness and was ordered to pay over $9,000 in restitution.

On January 15, 2024, Tianna Ross arrived at Barnes’s residence to deliver their child to him. He shot her multiple times in front of their 2-year-old child and fled. He later turned himself in to the authorities.
