The 2026 Affinity Bar Charity Challenge took place Thursday, March 19, at Pop’s for Italian in Ferndale. The Oakland County Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association, Italian American Bar Association of Michigan, Detroit Bar Association, Wolverine Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan - Macomb Region, South Asian Bar Association of Michigan, and Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan all participated. Among those attending the fun night of giving back were (left to right) Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Edward Ewell Jr., Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Sima Patel, Kristin Fernandez, U.S. District Court Judge Shalina Kumar, Jacky August, Brad Hall, Stefania Gismondi, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cylenthia LaToye Miller, Kari Melkonian, Macomb County Probate Court Judge Sara Schimke, Macomb County 39th District Court Judge Alyia Hakim, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Paul Hage, Kelly Donnelly, Jen Smith, Retired Judge Craig Strong, Bridget Underhill, Hina Purohit, and Angela Medley. Attendees voted for their favorite bar association by donating cash “tips” to the association’s “tip jar” of their choice. All tips go to the charities selected by each respective bar association. This year’s winner with the most tips was the WLAM – Macomb which won by raising $2,645 for Turning Point of Macomb. Second place was OCBA which raised $1,086 for the Ruth Ellis Center. The event raised $8,862.98 overall for nine different charities.
