Highland Park man pleads no contest to eight felonies, including assault with intent to murder

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 25-year-old Brendan Wilson, of Highland Park, MI, pled no contest to eight felony charges to resolve his case connected to an October 12, 2024, incident. On that date, Center Line Police officers responded to a call of a reported break-in. Officers observed Wilson exiting the home carrying an AK-style weapon. While attempting to flee and pulling out of the driveway, Wilson crashed into a police vehicle and fired his weapon at an officer. He was later taken into custody by Warren Police officers.

On Tuesday, April 7, the date set for a jury trial before Judge Rachel Rancilio in the Macomb County Circuit Court, Wilson pled no contest to the following felonies:

• Assault with Intent to Murder, a life or any term of years felony

• Fleeing and Eluding - Third Degree - Vehicle Code, a 5-year felony

• Weapons – Firearm – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony

• Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony

• Four counts of Felony Firearm, Second Offense, each a 5-year felony, served separately and consecutively to other imposed sentences.

Pursuant to Wilson’s plea, charges of Malicious Destruction of Police Property, a 4-year felony; Malicious Destruction of a Building $200 but less than $1,000, a one-year misdemeanor; and Driving with License Suspended, a 93-day misdemeanor will be dismissed at sentencing.

Wilson will be sentenced before Judge Rancilio on Tuesday, May 19, at 9 a.m. Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Carmen Rankin and Steve Fox represented The People at this hearing.

“This case is a tragic example of how one poor decision can quickly lead to another, with lasting consequences. As a result, a young man will spend the prime of his life behind bars. Crime will not be tolerated in our county, and I hope this outcome serves as a powerful reminder to other young people of the serious consequences that follow such actions,” said Lucido.
