Personal injury accident in Charleston Twp.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department responded to a personal injury accident in Charleston Township April 11 that left one person hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Kalamazoo Sheriff Department, Saturday April 11, at 2:34 a.m., members of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle rollover accident at the intersection of East Michigan Avenue and South 40th Street in Charleston Township.

When deputies arrived on scene, it was determined that a vehicle was traveling eastbound on E. Michigan Ave when it failed to stop at the “T” intersection with S. 40th St. The vehicle continued traveling eastbound through the intersection, leaving the roadway, crashing through a guardrail, down the embankment and eventually coming to a rest upside down in the small ravine.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital to be treated for what is believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The lone passenger of the vehicle refused medical treatment on scene by rescue personnel.

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriffs Department it appears that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in this accident.

This incident is still under investigation.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Life EMS, Galesburg-Charleston Township Fire Department and Comstock Fire Department.

Anyone with additional information about this accident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer.
