Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that 32-year-old Joshua Mills, of Eastpointe, has been sentenced in two criminal cases arising from incidents that occurred on Oct. 5, 2025.
Lucido says the first case stems from an incident in which Mills attempted to stab a police officer with a screwdriver while the officer was attempting to arrest him for shoplifting at a Sterling Heights Walmart store.
The second case involves an assault committed against his wife in Eastpointe.
Last Thursday, Mills was sentenced by Judge Richard L. Caretti of the Macomb County Circuit Court following no contest pleas to the following charges:
Sterling Heights case:
Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder: 63 months to 20 years
wo counts of Assaulting, Resisting, or Obstructing a Police Officer: 2 to 4 years
Retail Fraud – Second Degree: 1 year
Eastpointe case:
Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder: 66 months to 20 years
Domestic Violence – Second Offense: 1 year
All sentences will run concurrently. Mills received 193 days of jail credit.
The court further ordered that Mills have no contact with Walmart or the involved police officers and that he refrain from any intimidating, assaultive or threatening behavior toward the complaining witness.
