A major path repaving project in Zeeland Township will cost taxpayers a lot less than expected.
The Township Board on May 5 approved awarding of the contract for the project that will repave the shared-used path along Adams Street from just west of Esker Drive to the township boundary at 96th Avenue.
Site Work Solutions, which is based in the township, submitted the low bid for the project at $896,966. Three companies bid on the project, Township Manager Josh Eggleston said
Adding in engineering and contingency costs, the total cost for the project is now estimated at $1,012,000, Eggleston said.
The township had budgeted $1.75 million for the project, which will also replace three of the boardwalks along the path.
The Adams Street path repaving had originally been scheduled for 2028, “but the condition of the trail will not allow us to wait that long,” Eggleston wrote in a memo to the board last fall.
No project schedule has been determined yet, Eggleston wrote in an email to the Zeeland Record.
“This will likely be a later summer project as the same company is also doing the pickleball courts at the (Drenthe) Grove,” Eggleston wrote. “Typically, municipal projects obtain better pricing if they have freedom to complete the project outside of schedules dictated by school projects (or) projects close to schools that must be done by the end of August.”
