Ex-boyfriend of missing Warren woman competent to stand trial, charges include first-degree murder

Macomb County authorities say Deandre Booker, a 33-year-old Roseville man, was determined to be competent to stand trial on charges related to the alleged murder of his former girlfriend, Ashley Lashay Elkins, who disappeared on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

It is alleged that Booker killed Elkins while she was at his apartment in Roseville and disposed of her body.

At a pretrial conference held in the Macomb County Circuit Court last Tuesday, the attorneys stipulated to the Competency Report from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry, dated May 20, 2026, that found Booker competent to stand trial and Judge Joseph Joseph Toia adopted the report.

A pretrial conference for Booker is scheduled for October 26 with his trial to start November 10.

Booker is charged with the following:

First-Degree Premeditated Murder, a felony punishable by life without parole;

Tampering with Evidence, a 10-year felony;

Disinterment or Mutilation of a Dead Body, a 10-year felony;

Concealing the Death of an Individual, a 5-year felony; and, from a related case,

Lying to a Police Officer in a Violent Crime Investigation, a 4-year felony.
