Located at 210 Gilbert St. in the heart of Loomis Park, the Boos Recreation Center recently completed construction on a new entrance, administrative office space, and meeting classroom area. These improvements build upon the major renovation project completed in August 2024 and further enhance the facility's ability to serve residents of all ages.
The newly completed additions create a more welcoming entrance for visitors, improve staff operations, and provide dedicated space for educational programs, meetings, and community activities.
"The Boos Recreation Center has been transformed through years of thoughtful improvements, from building upgrades and new amenities to the addition of a welcoming new entrance, office space, and multipurpose room," said Kelli Hoover, director of Parks, Recreation, Cemeteries and Grounds. "One of my favorite features is the new window design, which connects the building to the playground and park outside. This facility serves residents of all ages, from youth programs to Active Jackson participants, and will continue to be a gathering place for generations to come."
The Boos Recreation Center serves as the primary gathering location for the City of Jackson's Active Living Program and hosts a variety of adult exercise classes, recreation leagues, and community events. The facility also features a gymnasium, community meeting room, kitchen, and restroom facilities.
"Jackson is fortunate to have beautiful parks and community spaces, and it's important that we continue investing in them," said Michelle Woods, chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission. "Facilities like the Boos Recreation Center bring families together, promote healthy lifestyles, and create opportunities for people of all ages to stay active and connected. I instilled the importance of city rec in both my boys, so that's close to my heart."
City Manager Jonathan Greene explained that the completion of the Boos Recreation Center improvements shows the residents who live around this neighborhood the reinvestment we're making in their neighborhood. “It provides a recreational opportunity for youth and adults. We’ve got a great playground as a part of this multi-phase project and now a beautifully renovated building so we can have indoor classes. I love anything we can do that reinvests tax dollars into the City of Jackson to provide a great amenity for our residents.”
The improvements were made possible through the continued commitment of city leaders, the Parks and Recreation Commission, staff, and community partners dedicated to strengthening Jackson's parks and recreation system.
