Simultaneous to being named to the board of directors for the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, Alisa Peskin-Shepherd has expanded her law firm to become a Center for Mediation and Collaborative Divorce, offering dispute resolution for a variety of circumstances and clients.
“I’ve practiced family law for more than three decades and discovering Collaborative Divorce was one of the best things to happen to my career and to divorce in general,” says Peskin-Shepherd, whose law firm, Transitions Legal, has consistently pushed the limits of what has been known in family law circles.
Now that she is no longer offering litigation services, Peskin-Shepherd can serve Collaborative Divorce clients throughout the state of Michigan, and she can mediate for clients anywhere in the United States.
Driven by the team approach inherent in Collaborative Divorce, Peskin-Shepherd sought to welcome other professionals into Transitions Legal’s Center, to reserve office space for their own mediations, client meetings, and more.
The two conference rooms and one private office are perfect for legal professionals who often work from home and need neutral space for client meetings as well as for other professionals who want private office space on a limited basis without the chaos often inherent in co-working venues.
For many years now, Peskin-Shepherd and Transitions Legal have offered out-of-the-box approaches to divorce and family law. Now, they are taking it a step further by eliminating litigation services and instead, promoting out-of-court methods for dispute resolution to promote thoughtful, team-based approaches to divorce and other legal quandaries.
“Divorce has long been viewed as a failure,” Peskin-Shepherd says.
“I named my firm Transitions Legal because I wanted to change the narrative. I do not judge my clients nor do I see divorce as either good or bad. It’s simply a transition from one stage of life to another, and my team aims to support people in whatever pursuit they believe is best for them and their family.”
