Former Chief Judge
Sean Cox of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of
Michigan was the featured speaker June 2 at the monthly professional
staff meeting for the Livonia-based law firm of Foley Baron Metzger
& Juip. Cox, who retired from the federal bench in 2025 and now is a
mediator and arbitrator for the Detroit office of JAMS, spoke on
“Litigation in the Eastern District of Michigan,” offering insight on
best practice methods for federal litigants, according to Joseph P.
McGill, a partner at Foley Baron and a past president of the State Bar
of Michigan. Prior to the program, McGill, who serves as Honorary Consul
to Ireland for the State of Michigan, presented the former federal
jurist with a commemorative medallion on behalf of the Consulate of
Ireland. Both Cox and McGill have deep family ties to Ireland. Pictured
in the accompanying photo (left to right) are attorney Brian Whitelaw,
Cox, attorney Enrico Tucciarone, attorney Carole Empey and McGill.
