Reading Reenactment

As part of a nationwide commemoration, a public reading of the Declaration of Independence took place July 8 on the steps of the Birmingham Municipal Building. The event, coordinated by the Piety Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Birmingham Museum, marked the 250th anniversary of the first reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Attorney Mike Schloff, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served with distinction during the Vietnam War, was among the readers.
