The Zeeland Township Board has approved the purchase of a third LUCAS chest compression device, a move that will allow the township fire department to have a device available at all three of its stations.
The board earlier this month approved a request from Township Fire Chief Brock Bruce to purchase the device from Stryker at a cost of $22,296, using available funds in the department’s capital outlay budget for this year. The new device will be assigned to Station 3, the station adjacent to the Township Hall, Bruce wrote in a memo to the board.
The LUCAS is a battery-powered mechanical CPR device that delivers consistent chest compressions to patients who are in cardiac arrest. Having the device perform CPR will allow firefighters and EMS personnel to focus on other critical patient needs, Bruce wrote in the memo.
